Was thinking of you the other day, the Miller family in particular -- not least because I'm not certain of my own, whether it's closer to the Walton or to the Manson one ...
But, more particularly, it was relative to a sci-fi classic, A Canticle for Leibowitz. Absolutely brilliant -- may you fare as well in your efforts. 🙂
“Fate of the western world hanging in the balance” theme. Armies contending by night. Moot exactly what depths are circumscribed by the various fields of battle, but “gender ideology” has to be a large part of it.
I'm sort of working on an “epistle” myself, one major thread of which is to decide who deserves a “mother of the year” award in that particular battle. My ex hails from the French quarter — couple of kids of her own under her belt, so to speak, so she certainly qualified as an actual “adult human female”, at least at several points in her life 😉🙂. Though I never spoke the lingo all that well — sadly ships that pass in the night.
But there's a Pat Cross cartoon on “progressive” parenting which points to or alludes to the main contenders.
The cartoon says it all. This topic we can call gender ideology is exceptional in every way. Nothing in this realm is treated the way it would be treated in any other circumstance or if it didn't involve "gender" and "transition."
That "progressive parent" is definitely not my pick for a "mother of the year" award ... 😉🙂
Maybe not entirely "exceptional", except maybe in being one of the most toxic "flowers" created by post modernism. ICYMI, Richard Dawkins' review of "Intellectual Impostures/Fashionable Nonsense":
"gender ideology" has, rather sadly, rotted out many of our educational, legal, governmental, and scientific institutions. You and "Mrs. Miller" have some "skin in the game", but many others -- including my siblings & cousins -- get quite "offended" at the suggestion that part and parcel of "gender-affirming care" is the sterilization and castration of autistic and dysphoric children. Crime of the century.
Whole bunch of so-called doctors deserve to be strung by their nuts and left to twist in the wind -- figuratively speaking at least ...
My pleasure -- Elise 🙂. Sorry for delay in getting back to you on your more substantive points, but had other fish to fry. Although, in the process, I found a couple of your other posts that are worth delving into.
But sorry also for that "ow" of yours 🙂. Relative to which is a salient quatrain, of sorts, from "Canticle": "a travelling salesman named Lucifer, and girl named Eve" -- last chapter, if I remember correctly. Apropos of which -- genuflecting to Justice Kavanaugh -- one of your posts which quite reasonably asks about the roots of your daughter's "gender dysphoria":
Many mothers in your circumstances, those with skin in the game, are to be commended for trying to rescue lost souls, if not having created homes for them in the first place. And quite understandable to feel some torment for them being lost to begin with -- as the twig is bent so is the tree inclined.
But I do wish I could say that I had plumbed those depths myself, not least since I'm somewhat in the same boat -- what you had alluded to in another post of yours which I haven't yet bookmarked.
Not sure how much of a lifeline and life-raft I might throw in your daughter's direction. But as something of a "modest proposal", at least as an alternative to that being peddled by various "gender affirming doctors", I'm working on a piece about Evariste Galois, a famous, a brilliant French mathematician (1811-1832). A tragic tale, bound to tug at the heart strings 😉🙂. Was thinking I could use a ghost writer or a Muse, a task to challenge Hercules -- interested? 🙂
I appreciate the kind offer, Mrs., but I acquired a copy of Tracing the old fashioned way —Amazon —8 months or so ago, when you podded with me. It seems I’m ahead of the curve for once!😇
OMG, I remember Deelite! Seems like music was happier in that era.
