I am deeply troubled by your own story (not the fictional one). Your difficulties with your parents make a lot more sense knowing the abuse you experienced at the hands of your brother.

This theory seems very plausible. But what about the unknown male's DNA? Where did it come from?

Thank you Celia. I appreciate that. According to the CBS doc the experts concur that the DNA is so scant it could have come from a factory worker who handled the underwear. They conducted a recreation of that and other scenarios and evidence.

I wondered if that might be a possibility. We often act as if everything that comes from a factory is untouched by human hands, but that is not the case. Kind of icky to think of, when it comes to underwear! A good reason to wash such clothing before you wear it.

This is an insight no one should have to yet so relevant. It felt so wrong to be listening to this as I realized it was you. Precious Mrs. Miller. The possibilities of your story relating to this murder but also the similarities to the culture war of gender ideology on our kids. The little girl in the story, so eager to please her abusive bully older brother, is exactly the same as our girls in adolescence, so eager to please activists, glitter, families, teachers, their peers and social media followers. To stand out and feel special and to have a voice and to be seen during a naturally difficult and uncertain point in time in their life. They are ripe and open to the abuse. The once trusted professionals and adults can’t be bothered to do the hard work of critical thinking, introspection, saying ‘no’, being the authority over a child and are so narcissistic they will do anything to be seen as an ally to the current socially credible cause. Giving themselves a pat on the back while ignoring the signs of abuse.

Very insightful connection between jb's murder/the abuse girls like us experienced and trans ideology. Beautifully put. Thank you!

I followed this story closely when it happened. The parents as the murderers never made sense to me at all. Honestly the brother was not the focus back then. Your "fictional" retell is the most plausible rendition of this sad story. I think your hypothesis is correct. I ignorantly never imagined/thought a brother could be this cruel to their kid sister. Bless you!

Fascinating. And, troubling, your own story. I'm so very sorry that shit happened to you. If you could recommend one of the sources you cite as the most reliable which one would it be? Netflix series? (I can only stomach one, I think.) And whatever happened to Burke? What's he doing now?

Expand full comment

No not the Netflix one. I'd say the cbs one. I found it on prime. Burke Ramsey sues people for a living. He won 750 mill suing cbs.

Thanks for the info. A Christmas movie for the rest of us.

As always, riveting and seems the most plausible. A competent police force probably would have uncovered the truth.

My MD brother-in-law said the inept Boulder police were the worst. He once asked for a rape kit to be done on an unconscious (later died) College girl who had been brought into the ER. She had been found behind a building- the Cop said it wasn’t needed since she had her pants on. The hospital did it anyway and, and of course she had been raped.

That's quite a story! the combo of dumb cops and shifty Ramseys means JB isn't getting the justice she's deserved for decades.

I'm so glad I read your piece before watching the Netflix series. Your disturbing theory was firmly implanted in my head, and confirmed with almost every scene. I completely agree with your theory. The opportunistic older brother in both stories resonates strongly - hugs to you.
